Description:
The house occupy a rectangular plot in the junction of two roads
with mild traffic, on the foot of mountain Parnitha in a quite
north-west suberb of Athens and very close to the Olympic Village.
The area has been progressively developed the last years
because of its key position which combines close distances from
city centers, organized local facilities and contact with natural
environment.
All communal areas like living-dining, kitchen, and study are
developed on ground floor following an open plan logic and
having an immediate contact with the external spaces, while
bedrooms and private spaces are accommodated on first floor.
The living-dining common area, of which part extends vertical
forming a double height space and visually connects ground
and first floor, is animated by the pattern of sunlight admitted
through the various size and orientation windows and provides
the inhabitants with interesting views towards the area.
Connection between bedrooms on first floor is achived via
a linear corridor that is naturally lighted by a rectangular
6,00x2,50 m window.
It was designed in correspondence to
the road that overlooks and can be read as a to way connection,
the corridor is the element of movement within the house, while
the road is the element of movement within the suburbia, the one
sees the other, through the window which acts as an interactive
screen between them. Then the movement becomes a spatial
experience of light and shadow, transparency and views, rather
than a typical procedure.
The house’s external morphology, can be seen as an expression
of the internal volumetric arrangements, a transition of the inside,
seen on the outside.
The smooth plastered surfaces enhance the
volumetric presence of the building, and determine its clarity.
The colors it is painted are similar to those of the local ground and
match to the mediterranean context and climate.

Description:
A new shop from a series of retail spaces around Greece called SHOP GUIDE has launched in the commercial district in the city of LAMIA in Central Greece.
The space was designed as an impressive gallery of orthogonal geometry and occupy over two floors of a 70’s existing building used to be a local Clinic. All internal walls of the converted and reconstructed building had to be demolished in order the shop to meet a open plan layout. In the ground floor which is arranged in two levels are exhibited women’s clothes and accessories while first floor is exclusively dedicated to men’s designer label fashion. The vertical dark brown surfaces are offset with the white resin floor and ceiling system, in addition the 3d pattern specially designed for the shop and appears on selected walls, offers an eye-catching compositional feature.
Description:
This suburban family house standing on the top of a hill overlooking Marathon lake, in Afidnes, a village about 30 km from the center of Athens.
The smooth plastered surfaces enhance the volumetric simplicity of the building, while the earthly colors it is painted, match with the Mediterranean context and climate of the mainland. The pitch roof itself tend’s to be a strong bond to the local traditional village houses but in a contemporary version.
Description:
Goody’s is the leading fast food restaurant chain in Greece which also maintains a distinguished position among corresponding leaders in the sector in Europe.
This shop is located in Victoria square, a very central square of Athens. It consists of ground floor and mezzanine while on basement all auxiliary spaces can be found. The design concept of the shop is conceived as a prototype that can possibly be applied on other restaurants of the company, which is open to fresh ideas. Custom-design is combined with modern materials, as seen on the double height herringbone wall, to the suspended from the ceiling cubical lights over the tables and the white staron counter. The project’s interior architect Maria Lantavos says: We were interested in a fast food restaurant with a spatial experience and a contemporary look, we experimented with materials, textures and shapes in order to create an interesting but cosy and friendly atmosphere.
Description:
Simple materials under a futuristic design concept and a great deal of effort needed in executing this space due to limited budget. The shop consists of a narrow ground floor and a first floor that all major activities of a young men’s clothes store can be found.
Parts of the walls and ceilings are covered in a textured white purpose designed and made panelling system. These panelsorientate different parts of the shop like the casual clothes area. The three fitting rooms on first floor have no doors or curtains as their parabolic design maintain privacy. A curved stainless steel tube suspended by metal rods from the ceiling is the form on which the various levels of hanging fixtures are based. This multilevel system underlies the dynamic functionality that is effected globally throughout the shop. The white shelving for displaying products continues this theme. The doors to private sectors of the shop like the storage and an office provide the sole chromatic counterpoint. The lighting scheme likewise plays an important role in this setting; spotlights, grouped in pairs, are strategically positioned above the shelves and display units to maintain a continuous line of light projected directly from the ceiling to floor, which provides a greater sensation of clarityand size.
Description:
Muratti Donna is the extension of the retail store Muratti Uomo, a new department which promotes female clothing and accessories, and it is placed on the back side of an arcade that is vertical to a popular commercial street.
The organic and futuristic forms used are related to the existing shop but refreshed with new elements added and colour themes giving the space a warmer atmosphere adapted to women’s idiosyncrasy. The characteristic big hanger, growing in front of the central plexiglass wall and inspired by a tree’s branch, is framed by two tilted walls that are covered on brown, skin like, wallpaper. Five fitting rooms and a large framed mirror, parted in three pieces, are placed in the inside right corner of the shop providing customers a discrete and private atmosphere.
Description:
The building is situated on a corner site with an area of 110.16 m2, facing Irakliou Avenue (on its main elevation), a commercial artery in the north suberbs of Athens, and rapidly developing area not far away from the Olympic Stadium. The building designed to address with the needs of a small men’s clothes company and to be used both as a commercial, office and storage space. It consists of a basement, ground floor, mezzanine, were the shop is been developed, the first floor is used as stock and storage while second and third floor are used as office spaces. All three floors are simple and flexible in design with the circulation to be placed at the back of the building.
On ground floor the large window screen with the curved corner is an effective tool to attract passers-by attention. Especially in night the shop seems to be part of the street, a focus point for all of the area. From the other hand first floor is an enclosed space with small parallelogram openings following the building program which required that this floor will be used as storage for stock clothes. Second and third floor have large openings, providing the inhabitans of the spaces maximum views to the city and plenty of natural filtered light. The primary structure of the building is in reinforced concrete and additional parts are metallic. Externally it has been cladded with gray insulated aluminium panels fixed on metal frames that contrast with the white interior. The elevations are completed by the stainless steel wire mesh covering parts of both of them. Apart from its ornamental qualities, the mesh also functions as a protective screen reducing sunlight power. It covers a main part of the building allow transparency from inside to the outside and the opposite, filters sun light and creates interesting illuminations with artificial light at night.
Description:
NATURA HOME showroom was created to accommodate
samples of curtain fabrics and furniture as well as samples
of orthopedic bed mattresses. Among the owner's requests
were a continuous 50 meters exhibition space for fabrics,
a 5 mattresses exhibition space, a meeting area, a repairs
workshop, a reception desk, and hygiene facilities for staff
and clients.
The general layout of the showroom was based on a sense
of circular movement in order the staff and clients to have
direct access in each segment at any time. This reasoning
led to the design of two large tunnels developed along two
sides of the space, forming a right angle, while operating in
the same manner as the inner and outer side surface are
used for the exhibition of fabric samples.
The tunnels are composed of vertical repeated panels that
they do not touch on the floor giving a visual impression of
floatation and that of a less enclosed space while function
as separators of fabrics in categories. Each panel side has
a different colour that switches from magenta to black and
the opposite, depending on the direction you move into
them creating an illusion.
For the illumination of the space, local and diffuse, three
different types of economy lamps have been used for
energy savings and better performance of the fabric
samples. In addition a custom made large size ceiling
lighting consisting of 400 rectangular pieces of white fabric
has strategically placed above the meeting area in the
center of the showroom and is semantic associated with
the commodity fabrics.
The section of bed mattresses appears as a separate piece
of the showroom and this was achieved with the construction
of the Greek alphabet letter '?'-shaped form surrounding the
beds. The tones of green and brown in that section, used to
emphasize a direct connection with nature, as all mattresses
are made of natural materials.
The vivid colors, the magenta and white resin floor, the use
of mottos and words on stickers to label different sections,
and the manipulation of lighting, created a brand image and
entice customers to browse the space.
Description:
Located in a small town in the north outskirts of Athens the new building erected on a triangle plot with an existing house and its main elevation face a local avenue while the rear side a very quite road with minimum traffic.
The building’s plan is tangent to the construction lines of the site, as given by the Greek building legislation, and this is a reason for its trapezium plan. It consist of ground and first floor without basement in order to reduce costs, and the primary structure is made of reinforced concrete. The building is placed 2.50 m of the existing house and its larger side of the trapezium shape is totally blank. A requirement made by the owner of both buildings as the house is his permanent residence while the new building will be rented by a third person. The ground floor is open to both roads with the main entrance to be found on the Avenue side. The circulation between the two floors iscarried out by a spiral staircase, painted in dark grey. The two main openings on the first floor both lead to a common balcony which serves the building as a temporary storage and sunshade above the entrance on the main elevation. The third opening is a skylight between the two roof slabs which vary in height. The resultant building constructed from a rigorously limited palate of materials, like concrete and plaster, presents itself as a monolithic composition of material and form, internal and external space, vertical and horizontal dimension to follow a specific programme.
Description:
This proposed housing scheme for 3 independent vacation villas has been placed on a plot with intense slope on the foot of the mountain Parnassos in Greece. The houses can be accessed by an open air flights of stairs starting on the higher point were the plot adjoins to the local road. This same road connects the village with the Ski center on the top of the mountain.
Each house is seen as a unique entity with it’s own personality and not as clone of the other, although in all underlie the same architectural identity. All 3 houses are attached to a different side of the plot, this caused due to it’s small size (416,44 sq.m) and according to the building programme that required a clear separation between them. The embodiment of the houses to the natural and built environment of the village, the use of natural light and views as well as practical issues to be solved such as the maximization of the used space were the major priorities of the study.
Description:
The proposed building is situated on a corner plot and resulting from the analysis of the relations between private and public, habitation and work. It is placed at the intersection of two roads and is detached, by creating different zoning of primary and secondary role. The two different uses of the building as is the residence with an autonomous apartment to be found on the first floor, and that of the working space, as a shop on the ground floor, both formed by a homogeneous shell with the main facade for each use to be perpendicular to the other.
Description:
The project is subject to a competition co-organized by the Greek Social Housing Organisation and the Hellenic Institute of Architecture. The site is located on the edge of a suburban area in Axios municipality some 27 Km from the centre of Thessalonica, in north Greece, which is the second largest city of the country. The residential complex is composed by small buildings that form a bigger group, in order to adapt into the existing landscape and context as the neighbouring village consists of single floor houses and small buildings.
The buildings are placed around the site, creating a "Wall" of protection, releasing an internal communal space where the evolved public life of the complex takes place. This area is formed in outdoor "rooms" with the help of planting (Tree lined), creating meeting places for the residents and playground for the children while prevent the houses from the internal disturbance.
The buildings are separated by areas of green which also act as communication 'channels' between the perimeter roads and the inner parts, creating a sense of 'fluidity' and yet served flexibility issues within and around the site boundaries. The circulation through a system of internal paths, the green areas and the position of buildings refers to the design of an electronic microcircuit. Our aim was the design of small and functional buildings, and not of a single large volume, consist of many apartments in a row, without the benefit of all exposed sides.
This position, yet allows all houses have wide views without one prevents the other. The buildings designed to be close to human scale and the local characteristics. In general the morphology of the buildings comprises two rectangular parallelepipeds separated by parallel walls of exposed concrete which limits the movement and from the volume of the staircase. A typical apartment plan consists, of two or three bedrooms, living and dining space, kitchen and a bathroom.
The design allows a direct movement through the central staircase between the building's frontage and the internal communal space. That same staircase connects apartments of each small block with basements and facilitates the proper lighting and ventilation of common areas. Access to buildings is achieved by using steps and ramps for the disabled persons, as all ground floor apartments have the respective specifications.
All first floor apartments can also be used by the disabled persons with a possible future addition of a lift. The two residential parts, divided by the mild traffic road and parcking space (as underground parking spaces were not aloud according to the competition brief) are connected from a small administration building.Eco-design principles were applied, such as, the use of photovoltaic panels, green roofs on buildings, natural ventilation system, and rain water collection in underground tanks.
Additionally all dwellings have been adequately
protected from the powerful sunlight by using semi-outdoors
spaces and wooden blinds on which creepers can be growned.
Description:
This group of 8 luxury holiday homes, supported by a building of
generic functions, is designed on a plot of 12 acres and is located
on the West coast of Peloponnese.
Among the key priorities of the design were the coverage of high
aesthetic and functional requirements as well as to ensure the
privacy between the dwellings.
All villas have outdoor exclusive use
of swimming pool and uninterrupted views across the Ionian Sea.
Description:
The background to the project related to the intention in, the London Borough of Southwark, to improve the general environment of the borough, as well as its identity and perception, through the encouragement of design initiatives. The client was interested in an approach in which new student housing is more closely related to the community and the local conditions in which is based.
The building contains 66 single bedrooms each with its own bathroom, and they are equally divided on three typical floor plans. One bedroom in each floor has got larger size from the rest in order to accommodate a disabled person.
The ground floor consists of the main entrance lobby the administration offices, and 4 shops, while on top floor are the communal spaces such as, lounge and recreation areas as well as a double height dinning room, all with great views towards the City of London.
The random placed and size bay windows and windows forming the main facade of the building are contrary to the rational rear elevation.
